Timothy Leary, a magickal messiah that is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his death this Spring.
This is an illustration for Sub Rosa 4, for an article about Leary's life post-prison and his parallels with Aleister Crowley.

Hahaha! I like this! I never thought someone would make a version of Crowley's PAN pic. Great work!

Haha, when I saw this I instantly thought of Crowley. The bruised sky is excellent!

The bigger you build the bonfire, the more darkness is revealed

Utterly superb drawing and content of course...a top favorite.

I think that this would benefit from pushing the illusionism much further.

Specific suggestions:
1. His right sleeve (the leftmost one in our view) does not have enough overall tonal gradation to push it back into space.
2. The hat does not yet recede towards its rear or pick up enough of the yellow light from the background atmosphere.
3. Atmospheric perspective is not taken into account sufficiently. There should be noticable haze over the mountains, causing a progressive decrease in contrast as space recedes. Also, near the golden dawn's brightest part, there should be light bloom present.
4. The principle of radiosity suggests that the orange from the ground should bounce onto the surface of the book, as on to part of his robes.

Hope that's helpful and not just annoying. This is a case where the piece is so good that rather small changes could make a big difference.
